Aside from locking yourself in the bathroom...

GarageBand is a no brainer- you can lose hours. 
Kong ielectribe- It's a Korg synth for your iPad & used by professionals eg. Gorillaz 

netflix/iplayer/YouTube are obvious. 

If your daughter is old enough the scrabble app is addictive. 
I use the Paper app for general writing/painting/drawing, it's one of my favourite apps.

if you've got a guitar then I'd add Riffstation and Songsterr to the list. 

Riffstation gives you the chords to songs and let's you jam along to YouTube. It's not perfect, but is pretty good and even lets you add a capo to make voicings easier. It's a bit like karaoke for guitarists. 

Songsterr is a scrolling tab app with a massive library of songs to learn.

Definitely good for you when you can't play for any reason. It's a bit like Jedi training with Yoda but makes you really appreciate what a gift it is to play (mmm yes young Jedi).
