5 way blade switching - is this possible?

What's Hot

HSS Strat - I have an Alegree humbucker in the bridge which doesn't sound right in Pos 2 (which should be coil split + middle) and I just want to get rid of it doing the coil split + single bit altogether and just have it coil splitting in position 2.

So, can it do this:

1. Bridge Hum
2. Bridge Hum Split
3. Middle
4. Neck/Middle
5. Neck

Any diagrams for this anywhere?

You probably could do it with a 5 way superswitch. Have you checked Seymour Duncan wiring layout archive?

That can't be achieved with a regular 5-way switch, as the middle pickup will be connected in position 2 due to the design of the switch. You would need a Superswitch to achieve that. However, the auto-split is possible, depending how you wire your tone control(s).

Not sure you need a Superswitch, but you probably need a two-pole jobby with individual contacts for each position.

Whether you need a 2-pole Superswitch or a 4-pole Superswitch is dependent on how you manage the coil split (i.e. which coil is voiced e.g. tying coil junction to earth or tying hot and coil junction together), and how the tone control(s) operate - if it's a single tone paralleled off the volume it doesn't need any switch pole, but other arrangements would require at least one switch pole.

Edit: I think it will actually require a minimum of 3-poles.

You’ll need a two pole, five position switch for the neck/middle combination. Depending which end of the humbucker you want to tap you may need it for that too.

Your choices are not far from what's on a Suhr Alt Pro (though it just has two 'Buckers), which uses a Superswitch - see below:

Use superswitch and instead of a full tap have the opposite lug connect a 5k resistor to the two wires of the humbucker that you tie together.

Doesn't sound right as in out of phase?
Swap the red and black over if so.
