I'm thinking of dipping my toe in the SG pool... i suspect the chance of this being legit are low and the chance of a neck repair high.

    Genuine.

Hard to tell if it's had a neck repair or not, but there doesn't appear to be anything suspicious there - and given the sinkage in some other places I think it would probably show.

I wouldn't worry about it - if it's had one it's been repaired very well, and that's the least of its problems from a value point of view anyway... the Kahler rout is the issue.

I wonder why the low E string has been left off the saddle like that?!

I was offered that guitar and told him he'd get more on eBay. Turns out I was right!

can you remember the condition of the frets @SteveRobinson ? what do you think it's realistically worth?

what do you think it's realistically worth?
I would say the best way to price it is to take the value of a fully-refinished SG Junior of the same year, deduct the cost of the woodwork repair and a full refinish, and a little more for the presence of the Kahler rout which will probably always show even with a solid colour refin, then deduct the price of the right hardware.

Whatever that leaves you is the right price - I don't actually know what these go for now, but I'd be surprised if the result was much over about £500... although I could be wrong.

If you can do the work yourself and fancy a project - and it could be quite cool when done - then maybe a little more, but not much.

If you’re capable of doing the woodwork and the refinishing, you easily have the skill to teach yourself - it’s not actually very difficult when you know the right way, and you only need one specialist tool... a crowning file.

I saw that a couple of days ago.

It's definitely legit, and I thought it was nice that whoever fitted the Kahler actually routed it neatly.

Almost tempted, but I know I'd never get round to fixing it up.

I only ever saw these pictures. I wasn't concerned about the frets as I'd replace them all.

Let's just say that I was only prepared to pay a lot less than the current eBay bids.

I don’t think it’s too badly priced at the mo for a labour of love.... certainly not a profit making exercise.  It will go for too much money

Looks like a nice project.  I would be tempted by a simple fill and a short vibrola to hide the end grain join

Spoke to the seller at length on this.

He mentioned an earlier offer and the eBay recommendation @SteveRobinson - didn't know it was you though.

From the conversation, I'd say it was genuine - the guitar used to belong to the seller's brother and the Kahler was added many years ago.

That would be a very nice idea.

Pelham Blue or some other solid colour and you probably wouldn’t see it at all.

I’m certain it’s genuine. There are too many correct details for a fake - including the look of the fingerboard - and the shaping is all perfect.

Assuming the pickup is original I don’t think it’s too much yet, but it isn’t far off...
