All of ICBM's comments reflect my own experience with the VS100 Convertible vibrato. I gave up using the special aluminium backplate and "locking" mechanism within weeks of purchase. At the time, it did little for my self-build confidence.

This is useful information. I ought to try substituting a non-Wilkinson arm and collar.
