Axisus - thanks for that. Really didn't think it was maple, but there you go! Still beautiful. And ziricote is probably one of my favourite woods - especially with a little sapwood running through it.

If only I had £10k to drop on a guitar!

    Cheers,

    Adam

The ones who decided to build it certainly were.

I think some guitar makers spend too long staring at expensive coffee tables.
Anyone remember those Moonstone guitars from the early 80s?

There is certainly a draw towards these kind of things that many guitar builders go through.

Its easy to get lost in the wood choices without focusing on the quality of the guitar - Spalted maple carve tops are an extreme example of this... its one of the most structurally compromised woods you can buy.

Maybe those that purchase are drawn by all those filled cavities for some reason?

Looks awful, like someone sprayed it with their diarrhoea. The 10k bit is just laughable!

I understand spalted maple can be a bitch to work with - easy to find so many pieces that are 'rotten' and simply break when been crafted
Yes, it is the wood equivalent of building a human pyramid out of cancer patients.
never heard it put like that before but see where you are coming from
