I’ve been running my pedalboard straight into a little USB interface/mixer, and then to a pair of monitors, and I have to say it sounds fantastic.
The secret? The Hudson Broadcast. I don’t know if it’s because it’s a pre-amp of some kind, but it really sounds good, even without a without a cab sim or anything. This includes running dirt through it, or cranking the fuzz on the Broadcast itself.
I also tried running my pedals into a Red Box, and then onto the mixer, but the levels are way too low. I’m using a Eventide MixingLink to do the routing, but even at line level the Red Box signal is way too low.
Still, the setup without it is also rather good, and I can always add a cab sim in software.
