What's going on with guitar prices?

So I've noticed a certain yo-yo'ing with guitar prices recently, especially fenders. A few months ago a MIM Strat cost £507. Then they went up to £517, then £527, now they've dropped to about £480. This is in a period of about six months.

Does this seem odd to anyone? Or am i over thinking things?

Exchange rates will play a big role - the pound is stronger now than it has been for some time. I have noticed that secondhand prices seem to be veering towards the "incredibly optimistic" for the most part at the moment though which is another story.

The latest price reduction smells a lot like the beginning of a clearout - maybe a model refresh is happening at Summer NAMM.

The previous increases were more about currency movements and the typical annual Fender increase they always do anyway.

(Maybe the MIM Standards will be “upgraded” to become the Mexican Professional line...)
