Anyone got an recommendations for a product for restoring black, plastic trim on cars that actually works?I've got some which I do my car with a few times a year, some kind of clear silicone gel.Looks ok when first applied, but only lasts about a week before it's faded again.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

  • G-techniq C4 worked on everything I've tried it on, it's not cheap but one application lasts a couple of years.

    PERL.

You can dilute it, dilute it different strength for different applications.  I dilute it to like 3 to 1 and put it in a spray bottle then put it on everything from plastic trim to interior to tyre wall.

I've tried a lot of things, this is the most effective and bang for buck.

Yep - heat gun it. Try a little non obvious spot at first to get your levels and intensity.

    Also good for scratch removal

I’ve had decent mileage with meguiars trim restorer.

But more recently been using autoglyms bumper gel stuff which makes things nice. Lasts ok.

The autoglym stuff works well on external trim but leaves a lot of residue and I wouldn't use it internally for that reason, it'll just attract dust

Oh snap! I didnt think he meant interior possibly!

Yeah I agree, I have seperate products for internal trim.

Currently use autoglyms plastic rubber and vinyl spray. Can spray on direct or use on a cloth after using megs interior detailer to clean the surface, and buff off quick for low sheen, or leave to ‘dry’ then buff for a higher sheen finish.

Works well, doesnt sticky up the place as much as other gel profucts I’ve tried..

I used to use a dashboard spray which was quick and looked good, but kinda looked greasy really and attracted dust. Then again I overused it like hell!
