Texting at Wheel-Not sure if I feel good or bad about this.

What's Hot
GassageGassage Frets: 31021
Last week, I was walking on the Zeb Crossing outside Marylebone Station Main Ent. A 'Redline' Tourist Coach almost failed to stop and skidded to a halt when he saw the Zebra Crossing almost taking a few pedestrians with it.

As I walked around past his window, mobile in hand texting away.

I tapped on his window and was told "Fuck off you cunt, none of your business."

I took a pic of him holding his phone on the wheel whilst driving.

He was dismissed today- they had CCTV on the coach too and saw it.

I am not sure if I am happy or not about this- I guess I did the right thing. Had he not sworn at me, I'd probably just kept on walking, but I am aware he's lost his job.

On reflection, I still believe I did the right thing?

  • 100% the right thing. Too many lives potentially at risk by their behaviour.

    Abso-bloody-lutely.

Selfish idiot drivers like that have no place on the road. Be comforted in the fact that you've probably saved, up front, somebody's life.
Big time kudos to you mate :+1:

A slightly slower reaction and he probably would have severely hurt someone. Add to that his reaction to you, and I'd say you definitely did the right thing.

Operating heavy machinery and HGV/LGV means you have to be safe and in control at all times - texting on a phone means you're not paying due attention to the road and any hazards. All drivers are made aware of that when training, so he's got no excuse.

    You are 100% in the right @Gassage ;

The man was driving a giant death machine and his attitude stinks, you may have saved lives.

You did the right thing, no doubt. Driver's a nasty dangerous twat who deserved to lose his job. Only concerning thing is he'll probably get another driving job in the future.

A foul mouthed response only confirms he knew he was guilty. Good work. I used to do this all the time when I used to cycle more as you have a better view into people's cars and it's incredible how many swear words you get in response
Please note my communication is not very good, so please be patient with me

Absolutely you did the right thing. You have potentially saved someone's life, since this would not be the last time he did it if he'd got away with it. No sympathy for him losing his job at all.

I couldn't remember the guy's name, but... this.

Seriously, why would you feel bad about it?  It's bad enough when people in cars do it, but - a professional driver?  Driving a f---ing coach?

Thank you for performing a public service.

Nor was the first, I'll bet.

Given what could have been lost, one dickhead losing a job he's clearly not cut out for is a pretty bloody good outcome.

I did something similar recently with the same outcome.

It's one of those situations where it actually could be a life or death matter, so no need to feel guilty.

Absolutely the right thing. Iirc in Japan bus & train drivers risk instant dismissal for even having a mobile phone in their pocket while on duty.

    Maybe this guy will learn.

Absolutely 100% mate. If you didn't regret that someone has lost his job you wouldn't be human, but it's totally right that he should lose it for putting so many lives at risk, yours included.
