6 Weeks Facebook Free

I took the desicion to commit Facebook suicide 6 Weeks ago - I got pissed off with almost subconsciously reaching for my phone and looking at the bollocks people posted (I posted bollocks too, mostly angry left wing socialist crap). Finding myself say in the same room.as my kids as still looking at the feed. It was like an addiction or certainly had the potential to be one. And that worried me a lot.

So I deleted my profile (I don't think permanently) and walked away - no "I quit" posts etc.

So how's it been? Well actually ok. But I do feel left out at times. It's stupid but stuff like videos of my band that get posted, my missis going "did you see X Y and Z has done this or that?" Etc. But there are some plus sides 

My phone battery lasts ages more! I feel I have the moral high ground ("did you see that on Facebook? - oh no sorry I'm not on Facebook")

Not being on Facebook makes you an enigma it seems to the wider public and I kinda like that

It’s tempting to do similar.
Yesterday I discussed going, tv, internet and PS4 free for a month with my wife.
Will be interesting to see what happens if we decide to do it. Feels like we have to plan it in though

I mainly use Fb messenger to keep in touch with band stuff, I don't like using Fb as it is but I know I need to promote the band on it, don't really use it for anything else really. If I deleted my profile and wasn't in a band I wouldn't miss it much.

Got a new phone a few weeks ago,and never bothered installing the app.I haven't actually posted anything on it for a year and a half,and that was only to thank people for their birthday messages.

You're right about the enigma thing.Most people are still incredulous that I don't use Facebook anymore and still tell me they've tagged me in on something even though they know I don't use it.

The superior feeling I get from binning it is great until I realised I spend more time on here than I ever did on Facebook

Don't use it either, had an account for about 3 weeks a decade ago. Realised I was just being talked at by people i didnt like in school, and still didn't like 10 years later either.

Dumped it a month ago and haven't really missed it. Our drummer deals with all the Facebook band stuff so I just need to check our band calendar for when the gigs are.

Facebook is a toxic realm. Was glad to walk away from it when I did.

I use it to stay in contact with people back home.
I just don't live on it.

Yup I use WhatsApp a lot and also Twitter.

I do find it odd that people use one type of social media to complain about another.

I guess people used to complain about Myspace via ICQ too.

I left about 2 yrs ago, don’t miss it at all. There were basically a core of about 5 people that I talked to on it and the other 100 or so I had no interest in and vice versa I’m sure. People love to brag and boast on it and the post set up pics of their great lives. It’s a massive bore.

It has it's moments. In the last week: Had a chat with my photography teacher I last saw 16 years ago, showed me pics of her in Israel and her now grown kids. Old (attractive) friend I lost touch with 13 years ago messaged me to say she was freshly divorced and "how are you?" LOL, that like, never happens

Never saw the appeal in Facebook.  Opened an account once, years ago, to see what it was all about, and closed it within a couple of days.  Never bothered with Twitter.

I only use WhatsApp to stay in contact with real family and friends.  Aren't many of those in any case, but that's cool, too.

I actually think I'm slightly addicted to this forum...
