No way, that is cool. Different feel and sound entirely and totally fair. I’d do it if I was using a Fender for sure.

    What Jazzmaster do you have?
I find Jag/Jazz trems great... by far my favourite design.
What issues do you have with it?

Why add all that extra weight for a system that isn't as good?

You can literally jump up and down on the avri vibrato unit and it will still be in tune.
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

It's a MJT partscaster, so probably not the best

Exactly what vibrato is currently on your guitar?

How is the guitar set up?
    • Big strings, medium-high action, bridge saddles set high on the grub screws?
    • Skinny strings, minimal neck pitch angle, everything rattling?

You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

11's medium action and the trem is just a no name Pat part I think that came from MJT.

    It's a bit rattly

And the trem arm falls out all the time and swings around too much. It's never where you want it to be

    Buy an avri unit

    Agreed.

I have and have had an AVRI a Vintage and for a long time a Japanese trem.
The AVRI and Vintage are great and the Jap version worked well for.me also.
You can tighten the collet  to hold the arm when needed or add some tape etc or just go with the staytrem solution, which is what I currently have on my vintage jag.

Also an insightful article on this trem design ad its clones.

I imagine that bigsby is going to sit very high off the body. I know offsets often need a shim under the neck with the stock trem.

I love a bigsby but you cannot beat the jazzmaster trem it really is fantastic, upgrade it and add the Staytrem collet and you’ll see a huge improvement.
