Gents,

Until recenty, i’d only seen these (built like a Strat pickup with magnetic pole pieces rather than with 2 bar magnets and screws) on cheaper Gibsons

I recently bought a Tele with one of these in the neck (made by Haeussel) and it sounds great, but the tinkerer in me cant help but consider the option of putting a traditional design P90 in there, so I can mess with magnets.

So, what do you Gents think of them?

Also, what are your views on pot values and wiring for combining a P90 with a Tele Bridge? 250k, 300k or 500k with a resistor across the Bridge pup?

If option 3, am I compromising the middle position (where I spent most of my time)?
The answer was never 42 - it's 1/137 (..ish)

    Brighter than a regular P90. Fatter than a Strat. (This could almost be a description of the Gibson Skylark single coil in my 1965 Melody Maker.) Rolling the tone control down a bit will smooth it out.

    Begin with an audio taper 250k volume pot.

    I like them, although did find them too cutting with 500k pots.  300 worked well for me.

    i am undecided if I prefer the style with or without a baseplate.

    just waiting for @Mojopickups  to release his non adjustable staple pickups so I can have another variation on this theme

    They're awesome pickups, with a much more vintage feel than most regular P90s. I use one on my favourite guitar;

    If it's a bobbin then you could replace the poles for a different alnico grade without doing any damage.

    Thanks for the comments, Gents - been playing it some more today and still really liking it

    @p90fool - can’t argue with how it sounds there :-)
