Weird Finger/Knuckle sound/pain

Last night, whilst taking a sock off, believe it or not, I kind of got unbalanced and as I did so, my hand got tangled in the sock, I got a grinding feel/sound from my middle knuckles followed by a hot pain not far from cramp pain.

It's very sore this morning.

Anyone ever had this?

I suspect it's a ligament strain but not sure.

I believe you because years ago I did the exact same thing and snapped the tendon in my middle finger. Stupidest accident I've ever had. However, the snapped tendon didn't cause any pain, so it sounds like that is probably not what you have.

A colleague of mine injured his finger taking a sock off and had to have a splint on his finger for a couple of weeks. I can’t remember exactly what the injury was (I’ll ask him when I see him this week) but I do remember that the doctors said it was commonly caused when putting on or taking off a sock, so may be exactly what’s happened to you.
