If someone can get away with an RX-7 with a Chevrolet V8, I imagine so.

Went to JapFest, the biggest Japanese car event in the UK, with a mate today - both of us are total nerds for Japanese performance cars, so this was a hell of a good day out - and on a stunningly beautiful day too. Despite the terrible hayfever...

Here are some of the best pics:

A Honda Accord Euro-R - this is the late 90s/early 2000s Japanese domestic market equivalent of the Accord Type-R. I love it and was very excited to finally see one in the flesh. Never seen one in the UK before.

This is a Honda Stream MPV, heavily modified with a K24 engine (another Honda engine which is easy to tune and can yield a lot of power). It still had a full interior and looked every inch the cool, usable modified daily driver. It was for sale, for £13k.

The interior of the tiny Honda Beat micro-convertible. Those zebra-print seats and floor mats are original...

Now for something that isn't a Honda... a beautiful old Datsun 240Z.

    https://i.imgur.com/jZ2xktq.jpg

A totally stock, very clean Mazda RX-7 - even on Japanese plates. Very special.

And now, an RX-7 which is a long way from stock... the engine is a Chevrolet LS series V8.

A Nissan Skyline GT-R, my preferred R32 shape, with no mods at all - surely a very rare car.

And a Subaru Impreza... possibly one of the most modified cars there. Utter madness.

    https://i.imgur.com/hJXv0Uw.jpg

The back of said Impreza. All you need to know - the boot is full of exhaust pipes, which exit at those holes next to the rear lights. Not sure how safe they are at that height, especially with all the fire that shoots out of them on a regular basis.

To round it all off... one of my favourite cars of the day, an S15-shape Nissan Silvia with some nice, understated mods.

    Great day!
Big mistake on the Impreza. Having a K&N cone filter in the hot part of the engine bay. They should have fitted a cold air box with the intake at the bottom of the Engine bay.

There was a very nice 240Z at the Mitty recently. I love that growl. Give me one of these over some aerodynamic turbo modern thing.

    Not many, no.

    Not a single NSX.

    Ah - a 124 Spider then?

That's a shame - NSX = my old gran turismo favourite, closely followed by the mx-5.

A house near me has a wonderful yellow mx-5. Top quality car, so much more fun than BMW z4s and the like imo.

You are me and ICM£5...The Eunos Roadster was always the best 1st car in GT.

Would agree with this - age-old GT wisdom which was passed down to me from my dad  . There were absolutely loads of MX-5s and Eunoses at JapFest.

Because I'm weird, my GT favourite was the S15 Silvia. Always had a liking for the NSX too - my dad, again, used a black NSX heavily on Gran Turismo 2 (which, for my money, had the best line-up of cars of any of the first few games - so much interesting JDM stuff. It's where I developed my liking for the Accord Euro R, the Mazda Eunos Cosmo and the Subaru SVX).

Since the topic has turned to Gran Turismo, here's another car people might remember - not just any modified Skyline, the positive unicorn that is the Nismo 400R. Only 44 of these factory-built, 186 mph missiles were made.

I'm not into cars much at all, but I've always loved the look of 1996-2006 Mitsubishi Galants.  They're a weird combination of boring yet slightly aggressive.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_Galant#/media/File:Jagvars_Galant.JPG

There speaks a wise man... I particularly like the VR-4 estate with the powerful V6. Thirstier than Oliver Reed but still:
