Gaming PC for a grand? Help a fella out please...

My son (12) has been saving and saving and with some additional funds chopped in from me and his Mum he's planning on buying (very soon) a gaming PC for £950ish - I said a grand as I don't mind topping up a bit more if need be.

He has (for reasons I can't extract) a slight preference for AMD

He's been researching himself as is leaning toward a machine based around:
  • Motherboard: Asus prime a320m-k
  • CPU: Ryzen 5 2600x
  • RAM: 8gb
  • Graphics: 6gb gtx1060
  • Drive: 1tb sata

I think it'd be sensible to add a small SSD for the OS ?

Any brands/offers/deals/suggestions ?  I know next to nothing about PC tech these days (filthy Apple whore who plays on PS4 ;-) )

Thank you!
Red ones are better.

Nothing wrong with the AMD probably the best bang for buck out there at the moment

SSD is a no brainer, a 256 is pretty cheap at the moment

1060 will be great for graphics, although prices are high at the moment (no sign of coming down).

Of course, an xbox is much cheaper ;)

Not long after the PC he'll want a better screen, mouse, keyboard etc :p

Ahem... I’ve got a gaming rig I’m looking to move on, minus hard drives.....

I know - he and his brother share an XBOX already - he plays online with his mates on PC though - he does already have a machine he uses and he's going to bring that one to my house, and have his shiny new one at his Mum's

  • http://www.logicalincrements.com is a great site for planning PC builds - it'll give you the best possible spec you can get at each price point.

Seen Dave's rig - that is a legitimate professional-level setup at an extremely reasonable price.

And definitely add a 120 or 250gb SSD for the OS. I run one alongside a 2tb HDD for storage, and my boot time is 21 seconds.
