Burning guitars.. taking the term ‘relic’ a step too far?

Was reading a story in an interview with Tim Wheeler from Ash where he said the day they got their advance, he went to Denmark Street and bought a new Les Paul and big Marshall amp.

A year or so later, he lit the guitar on fire on stage, melting the finish, then back stage started chipping at the rest of it with a knife.

Asked why he did it he said "I have no idea" which roughly translated probably means "I was off my tits"...

He still has the guitar though.

When a seller starts off a listing description with the rather Savillesque: "Now then...." you know you're looking at something special...To quote the listing: "The burns were (rather dangerously it must be said) created using electricity".....Not the old throwing it up into a pylon trick? Marvellous!

The removal of the paint and resin has lightened the guitar considerably, and the tone is now superb. How much paint and resin did it have on it?? maybe take it for a spin! would taking it for a drive help you decide if you wanted to buy it or not? would it have to sit in the front seat?
