I’ve had an itch for a Gibson Les Paul lately and spent a little while at Peach checking out the more affordable end of the range to see how something like a Faded, Studio, or Tribute stacks up against a Traditional or Standard and the Heritage (which is a weighty, swaggering brute of a guitar, or at least the one I tried was...) kind of reminded me of this brutal chunk of Mahogany, which I’ve owned since 1976. I haven’t gigged it for ages (years!) because it’s just so damn heavy but I was inspired to drag it out, stick a set of strings on it and take it out last night. It’s still bloody heavy but oh my word it’s fun to play and every bit as good as the Gibson’s...
