Ok I know prs guitars are good but I don't think the pickups have been this highly regarded

They are valuable for collectable reasons, not necessarily for quality...

Because they suck, a lot of early PRS users swapped them out. So an 85/86 with non-original pickups is worth less with aftermarket pickups, and can be brought back to top market value with these. They *might* be a good investment for someone looking to sell later on. That's a high price though and the rest of your guitar better be minty-fresh.

It reminds me of the used car market, people would pay a lot of money for original parts. I wanted an original radio for my 89 Porsche but couldn't find one for less than a couple of grand.

PRS spares are really expensive as well, even standard things like pots and switches.

    Yup, rarity.

A lot of people hated them (including me) and replaced their late 80's PRS Customs with other brands then then lost the originals.
Returning the guitar to stock can add £1500-2000 to the price of the guitar (provided it has the sweet switch and 5 way.

I sold a pair for £600 about 4 years ago.
