Noob question

sorry another inane question but if one spec'd up a 4 wire pickup can you easily wire it on as a 2 wire if required? I'm thinking at the moment t'll only be using the pickups as a standard fitting with no push pulls etc. However I may change my mind at a later date so feel the 4 wire would be more versatile?

I guess my main query is do all the wires have to be connected to something for it to make it a circuit ?

You just need to solder the 'link' wires together and tape them up.

Great that's what I was hoping. Thanks. So it makes sense to always spec up 4 wire nowadays for the future choices :)

I always recommend four conductor ... for the very reasons you say. You can use a four conductor pickup two conductor, but with a two conductor you are stuck with conventional wiring.
And as @FatPete says, the series link wires need to be soldered together and insulated back if they are not going to be used (for a coil split for example).
