Dreamtime is the best Cult album isn’t it?
Roland said: Scales are primarily a tool for categorising knowledge, not a rule for what can or cannot be played.
Supportact said: [my style is] probably more an accumulation of limitations and bad habits than a 'style'.

hmm...Electric? not sure its the best rock album ever, its more of the turning point for The Cult - there are better albums IMO.

I actually prefer Sonic Temple as a "Rock" Cult album, mainly because I like the more produced sound rather than the stark sounds on Electric.

But, in saying that, Classic Cult has to be either Dreamtime or Love

    I also prefer Sonic Temple.

Electric was one of the first albums I bought though so it is still pretty special to me.

My Favourite is ACDC’s live album....if you want blood :)
I am ashamed to admit that I've had 'If You Want Blood...' in my iTunes collection for some years and never listened to it. I just let rip with Riff Raff at a healthy volume through the nearfields in the man cave ...fuck me, that's a beast of a live sound. Love it!

    I'd say Jane's Addiction - Nothing's Shocking.

Ok, so it's got to have been in pmbomb's life contemporaneously...

And I'm not sure how we're defining hard rock....

    Trouble - Manic Frustration
King's X - Out of the Silent Planet
Tesla - The Great Radio Controversy
Circle of Soul - Hands of Faith
    Clutch - Robot Hive/Exodus
Masters of Reality - the Blue Garden
    Montrose - Montrose
Scorpions - Love at First Sting
Def Leppard - High 'n' Dry
    AC/DC - Powerage

For me ACDC Highway to hell is right up there. Montrose debut is a good call for 70s. Two solid rock albums for me are Little angels Young gods and Thunder Laughing on judgement day

    Good shout with Masters.

I'd go with S/T over Manic maybe but Psalm.9 is easily in the top ten metal albums of all time.

Not got a clue about the time-frame here and I've always been bad at categorizing music. Going by what's been mentioned so far:

Deep Purple - Live in Japan
    Ministry - Psalm 69
Primus - Tales from the Punchbowl
    Clutch - Psychic Warfare

And I'm not sure how we're defining hard rock....

Broadly, I'd say from early Boston through to Metallica. Not bothered about splitting it into sub-divisions. We know it when we hear it.

Great to have some new listening suggestions here, ta.

Def Leppard - High 'n' Dry

Good call, I like On Through The Night too.

What about King's X - Dogman or Badlands debut?

    What about King's X - Dogman
I love the first four albums but Dogman was where it all started to go wrong, IMO.  Although it's still much better than what was to come.

Yeah those first four "Gretchen" era albums are superb.

The self titled (4th?) one was where I started to lose interest a bit - seemed to have less soul somehow even though it sounded big. Given the choice between that and dogman these days I'd probably pick dogman. Agree that it goes much weaker after that though - mainly due to production budget I guess

First three kings X were awesome and they were kick ass live as well. Some top notch songs.
