Rig Rundown - The Edge

What's Hot

Thought it might be worth posting here in case anyone doesn't subscribe, but likes U2. They're a band that I dip into every now and again, but get a little frustrated by some of the personalities.

However, there's no denying for me that The Edge is a bit of a pioneer and this rig rundown is really interesting. Gives a great insight into the life of a tech, how precise The Edge is with certain aspects of his live rig and just a great overview of what goes into a U2 tour.

Even if U2 aren't your thing, I think you might find this interesting on a music/industry level

    We had a 6 page thread on this recently, descended into the usual "discussion" between those that can see his unique playing style and innovative use of effects, and those with an alternative view point ;-)

    I find that the best way to understand and really hear The Edge's delay settings is this;

    Uh no, not this again
    The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

    Guy can barely play, only ever does two notes and a delay to make it sound fancy.  ;)

    Just read the other thread. I have reopened Pandora's Box. I'm truly sorry and for this, I shall turn off all my delay pedals for a week.

    He talks very highly of your pioneering guitar wizardry though....

    You are very right. I do. Apologies @Cirrus I thought wrongly that it was some lazy abuse of His Royal Edgeness. Clearly not.
    My, erm, Bad.

  • There’s something very fitting about a thread about the Edge repeating.

    And a slight delay between repeats as well with the second thread being slightly shorter..

    I like it. It is a very unique thread. There is no mistaking this thread from any other. You knew exactly what would be said as soon as it was posted.
