I agree that it’s not too much of a surprise that many albums open with a great song. Understandably the bands/record co’s want to grab the listeners ear early...

I have a theory about track 7’s being some of the strongest album songs - they’re usually getting towards the back end of an album when the attention might be drifting. 

Examples:

Just - The Bends
Stanley Road - Stanley Road
Available - Sad Songs For Dirty Lovers
John Finn’s Wife - Henry’s Dream

Unfortunately after typing that I’ve thought of 10s of albums where track 7 isn’t that good...

Graveyard - any of the first song on the first three albums. They def had a knack.
