Cheers for the PSA - much appreciated.

IIRC, the seller has used other eBay ID’s (and has featured on here previously re. dodgy trading).

So, naive question but how does this guy scam people?
And how come he has 100% positive feedback on eBay?

Just trying to figure out how you'd be able to spot these scammers.

And is that actually a Gibson? The knob setting out doesn't quite look right in relation to the bridge position, or relative to each knob.

I may be wrong though. I have been in the past....

Will have used fake info for Paypal or a compromised account. When you buy off him he will tell you he is on holiday and will ship in 2-3 weeks time. Paypal will release the funds, he will dissapear with them and you're out your cash. Its quite possible that the account on eBay has been compromised and has been a legit account at some point.

Thanks Iain. How does he manage to 'disappear' if Paypal have his bank account details though?
Or is that the clever bit that the scammers know and the rest of us don't?

He's also got this for sale:
"RARE Epiphone Casino Inspired By John Lennon 1965 outfit USA £1,399"
    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RARE-Epiphone-Casino-Inspired-By-John-Lennon-1965-outfit-USA/153124471241?hash=item23a6ee01c9:g:3UsAAOSwvDpa2asf

Its quite misleading. The USA John Lennon's were £2k new. The IBJL's were £800 (made in China with US pickups).

Theres a couple of ways they do it. its either a legit bank account with false info used to open it, there's countries where its very easy to open a bank account (UK included) or they will rent an account from someone. Or if you have ever been selling something on Gumtree and the buyer offers to pay via Paypal or bank transfer and they "Accidentally" send you more money than what you are owed, then asks you to wire the overpayment back to them. By the time you have wired it back to them they are free and clear and you are left carrying the can

As I said, this seller has been discussed on here before - people actually received guitars, but they were in poor condition and not as described - they then had issues when trying to return them/obtain refunds, etc.

    No idea re. 100% feedback!

So it would run something like this:

Dodgy seller: "Here's my lovely guitar for sale"
Buyer: "I won. Nice. Here's my money via paypal"
Dodgy seller: "Great, I'll pack it up and send it to you now"

    Several days pass...

Buyer: "Your guitar is shit, I want to return it"
Dodgy seller: "Sorry your'e not 100% happy. Of course, I'll refund the money now".

Dodgy seller: issues refund but for too much money. Then contacts the buyer to say "Oops I got confused and have sent you too much money. Can you send it back please?"
Buyer: "Yep, I've sent back the money. Can you send me the correct refund now please".

Several days pass with no response...
    Buyer: "Hello, anybody there?"
