Did everyone notice the massive increase in sound quality in the pre-CBS strats? No, me neither.

Same here. I'm only on the first riff with the middle pickup, but on tone alone, I like the 69 & 63 the most.

Just watched the first 3 mins but (on my iPhone anyway) there was a massive difference in sound between when he got down to the 59 models. 54-59 sounded far more articulate and transparent compared to the 60-74 ones.

I thought so too, there seemed to be a real jump when it hit the maple necks, though that was less apparent with the CBS guitars.

66 and 71 were consistent but I noticed that where Johan tired the sound got poorer, so no real science here. TBH - is every Strat sound you have ever heard or owned over the years and each to their own - including copies at any price point.
