Getting a new guitar - thinking about a Sterling JP6?? thoughts?

Hi Guys, I have been given a bit of cash to buy a new guitar, something to do with my 40th birthday.

Anyway I have most of what I need really, which makes guitar shopping hard, either I am "upgrading" an existing item or getting something new.

The best guitar I have ever played by a long shot was a MM JP6, the set up on it was amazing and it played really well, but alas I don't have £3k,  so I have been looking at the Sterling version of the guitar, which is in budget and looks good, but I don't have anywhere near to try one out. How do the Sterlings compare to the real deal, for £1k I would still expect the guitar to be pretty good.

Any thoughts on this or ideas for another guitar to add to my collection, I already have the LP, Strat, Tele, Flying V, Ibanez (that I will likely sell)

£1k will get you a full fat second hand musicman, forget about sterlings brother. Other models worth checking out and within your budget would be a silhouette and axis or axis super sport. Truly fantastic necks on axis range.

Yip, am looking into it, that gold JP6 in classifieds is tempting, but I am in a position where the price I would pay for a Sterling is pretty low and has literally no risk involved, think I may get one and then compare it against my friends MM then decide.

Went bass shopping with our bass player who loved my Stingray, but couldn't  afford a 'real' one, after trying a good few Sterlings he found the money!  Not sure if it applies to the guitars but would assume so, IMO the Stirlings were pretty OK and looked like the real thing, but the step-up in quality between the two is huge.

The JP6 in the classifieds looks lovely, £1300 was his trade value, don't know if he's selling , but if he is he may take less for cash (or he may not)

There's a red jp6 with shield inlay on uk guitar exchange group on facebook. This guy wants £850 for it
