Never played a strat!!

What's Hot
I was restringing my Strat copy the other day when I realised that I have never ever played an actual Fender Stratocaster! I've never owned too many guitars and so haven't ever go e shopping for one. Am I in the real minority?! Think it'll be next on my list

  • Yes, yes you are in the minority, they are and always have been my favourite guitars!

  • I love them and really want a proper one. No idea why I've never played one...played teles, Les pauls etc. I need to get to a shop

I love the sound they make but the middle pickup just gets in my way.
A Deuce , a Tele and a cup of tea.

I've never really understood this criticism.

I’ve played a strat copy, a Stagg, which was my first guitar. An Hss one.

I’ve only just in the last year played an actual Fender anything! And its a Tele... A Mexican one.

Never played an American anything either actually!
The only easy day, was yesterday...

I doubt I've spent more than a couple of hours total playing Fender Strats,  yet I regard myself as a "Strat guy".  I've owned Tokai, Suhr and Tom Anderson Strats.

Yes, I started out on Strats many many moons ago, over a decade then on acoustic and then more onto Teles, although I love Strats I just can't get comfortable playing one.

I've returned to strats recently after a long period of time. Thay always seemed like a bit of an unimaginative choice and too much plastic on display ..... But that neck pickup is like nothing else.

Also, I think a strat needs a bit of help from a boost or od pedal.  They don't sound great straight into the amp like a Gibson does.....

Drop the height down and pretend it’s not there.

I no longer own one now, perhaps one day I will Strat again but I enjoy the Tele way too much to be easily persuaded.

Lots of people have their middle Strat pickup almost flat to the plate.
Mine isn't far off. It's as low as the top of the adjusting screw on the bass side and slightly higher on the treble side.

Or learn to pick slightly in front of it - genuinely never been a problem for me - I’ve been playing Strats since 1981....

  • I've never played a fender tele, though I play Nashville style country...my Tele is a Ruokangas. I've never played a Gibson Les paul, though I love the blues. My les Paul is  a precision Guitar Kit. I do have a Fender strat though, an EJ signature. So, like you, I am in that weird space where I've not played official versions of anything but I do love to play those styles of guitar lol.
