Did it earlier today and it invoved no soldering and no deoxit or other fluids and more importantly it worked .
Instructions are for a Telecaster I haven't tried other types of guitars
1 Remove top plate by unscrewing the two furthest screws ..leave the middle one and lift off .
2 Unscrew both the knobs, tone and volume using the small side screws not too far or you'll lose them.
3  Tone pot firstly using a small but firm screwdriver lift up each of the small flaps on the pot.
4 The tone pot will then easily come apart and inside you will see what you see in this video
on youtube of how to clean a poteniometer.
5 Make sure it's all clean.
6 The volume pot is more difficult but if carefully thought out can be cleaned without desoldering
or messing about.
Rebend the flaps that you bent originally and reassembled correctly it should work like a new pot.

Another tip is to extend the life of your amp/combo leave the lead in the input on the amp as
it's cheaper to replace the socket on a guitar than on the amp. Some  amp sockets wear  out
quicker than you think if your plugging lots of guitars in and out of it.
