I cant watch the videos right now so you might need to elaborate on whatever obtuse point you are trying to make.

5 string rays have a series option on the switch which sounds great. The classic 4 string ray tends to be used more for the bright funk thing but the 5s with 3 band eq are more versatile. As proof, just look at Tony Levin, he's played a 5 string late 80's ray on nearly any style of music you can think of.
I'd never go back to a ray thats just wired in parallel.

  • I can’t watch the videos because the links are broken. If you edit after posting YT links it turns them in to photos

I’ve got the HH model. I had a look inside the control cavity and didn’t fancy trying to work out how to add a series/parallel switch. Looks like each pickup wire goes into its own unique point on the preamp board. I’ve heard that there’s some gain matching going on for the coils in certain positions, but don’t know if it’s true or not

Well you don't really say anything of substance so I can't tell if I like it or dislike it yet.

You'd need to open up the pickup and run wires to a switch mounted elsewhere (before it exits pickup and hits the pre) there is some info on this in the MM forums.

  • Hmm there isn't anywhere easy to mount a switch without drilling, and I think the whole circuit is on a single board so switching the volume pot for push pull isn't something I'd know how to do either.

I'll probably just leave it as it is!  It has enough sounds on the 5 way as it is.

What a quality video. The sound of that Jazz Bass played slap style gave me a semi.

The Precision and Stingray weren't too shabby either.

Maybe I should do a semi hollow jazz as a partscaster project

    There's an idea.

I'm seriously thinking about taking up the bass again, I'm in awe of Jazz Basses, I love them.

I might actually have a go at a partscaster, How hard can it be?

    Wow, that's impressive.

    Where's the pickup?

    Where's the pickup?

Hadn’t been fitted at that point - now has a split coil 51P hamdwound in it
