Octave Down Pedal to Thicken Guitar

A question for you guys using the Drop/Ricochet as I've only briefly used it to fake a bass when jamming (which it worked well for). If you split your signal into bass and guitar amps, use it to fake a bass when playing chords does the bass side go all mushy? I know it works great for single notes but wondering how the chords sound when dropped. The Boss OC3 has the range knob to limit the effect but I hear the Drop works better and less synthy. Could you use an eq pedal as a low pass filter with the drop to stop the higher notes passing as much?
