I recall from Eighties guitar magazine interviews that LB claimed to never use the the active mid boost mentioned at 5:30. Also, as the top end of his vocal range disappeared, he took to tuning down to compensate. The string guide between the bridge and tailpiece is almost certainly to prevent unwanted resonances from the strings.
