Stabalise lifting Lacquer .

Can anyone please give me some advice on a Telebration partcaster I recently bought.

I knew there was an issue with the finish but  it quite a bit worse than I was expecting .

It has nearly all come off the back and is lifting in places on the top , I was wondering if it was possible to “ stabalise” the lacquer so it does not get any worse .

I was going to use thin superglue in the cracks but concerned it will show underneath the lacquer and make it look worse .  The other option is to remove the lot but it is only a rosewood veener on the top and back .

any input would be much appreciated.

i have had good results with thinner lacquer and capillary action

but your issue looks quite serious and i think i would just be tempted to get all that finish off and redo it.

  • Thanks for the advice .

I was tempted to remove all the lacquer but have neither the funds or skill to refin to a high standard.

Also as it is a dark-stained spruce body core between a rosewood top and back it won't look too great if it's just oiled which I was going to do .
