Strat refinish - Hopefully Mr Moore would approve

A customer presented me with a poly coated 90s Strat a few months ago. He’s quite the Gary Moore fan, he’s not alone on that one. 

I was given the task of turning this interesting looking US bought Fender into something that resembled Gary’s red strat. And no, I was told not to replicate every mark or scrape. This was more of a tribute to the original.

While I had the guitar I also levelled the frets and fully dressed them and rolled the fingerboard. I’m happy to say it now feels like one of my own guitars. It’s extremely comfortable to play and I’m delighted to be able to hand this one over knowing it was a job well done. The customer had actually already sorted the back of the neck to his liking. Given that it was ultra smooth and not sticky at all I left it well alone. We also replaced the pickguard with an aged mint one (that was done here too) as well as the rest of the plastics.

Looks mighty fine, but I would HAVE to swap those saddles for bent steel if it was mine. Very nice looking strat indeed.

Tbh, I had a spare gotoh bridge on standby in the early stages in case the owner changed his mind but he didn’t. It’s cool with me, as long as he’s happy (which he is ). I’d have been inclined to swap it out tbh

Looks much better but yeah needs vintage looking saddles and a white/ cream nut.

Nice, but two post trem... for the sake of a couple of bits of dowel and a redrill,I would have fitted a proper Strat trem.

As long as the customer happy, we all should be, I guess!! :-)
