About a year ago a good mate quit the place which was driving him to breakdown. He said even on his last day his team were down the pub for his farewell drinks and he was working late. He isn’t the typical victim to bullies but the environment there had become so toxic that he was playing that role.  Looking back now he barely recognises the person he had become.

    It's a totally legitimate danger.

The British workplace is culturally very poorly supportive of mental health issues.

I resigned from my last full-time job in 1995. Self-employed ever since.

Years ago I worked at BT, and I heard about a guy who after he resigned did a massive shit in the middle of the call centre floor. I think that's more mythical than bigfoot though.

I've never heard about that, but there was a contractor several years ago, who upon finding out his contract wasn't being renewed, shit on the ski flap in his company car, folded it up, then abandoned the car in the car park. It was only discovered a couple months later when his ex-boss was asked why the car hadn't been returned to fleet. The keys were found in his old desk, and the first trip was to a specialist valeter for a deep clean on a recovery lorry, as the inside was that bad.

Last week i resigned from my job. I had been feeling depressed and down for quite some time regarding my job. The travel distance, the money, the lack of development and my feelings towards the company led to my decision. A close family member has been off work with depression and anxiety and I didn't want to go down the same road. So rather than crack at work I took a break.

Initially I felt elated, like a weight had been taken off of my shoulders. But at the moment its a lot of nervous energy, have I done the right thing? My other half has been incredibly supportive and encouraged me to make the decision.

I now need to knuckle down with searching for a job . I may be listing my PRS though :( still bigger picture and all that.

you've given up your partnership in a Dental Practice??

As much as I really like the guitar, it's still just a guitar. And I kind of wish I went with a less flamey one, I have been talking to my old band mates about gigging again and taking the DGT out, would make me feel a bit like a dickhead tbh.
I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

Haha I know. I interviewed for this the day after I resigned. I didn't think I did that well but they really liked me. I'm still off till the start of October.
I was umming and ahhing, just got a mortgage and although my missus earns enough to keep us going i didn't want to be scrabbling around for work in a few months time. If I really don't take to this job I can move on. ten minutes in a car compared to two hours, saving £200 a month on fuel and earning more money I'd be daft not to go for it.
