What has the top quality FX like the fractal but without the amp modelling stuff?

could be a small module type thing or something like the floor unit AX8....something quality and current/modern

Yes the Helix HX, i'd try both but I do think having had both units that the Fractal FX8 has much better effects to my ears

Yes better effects but nowhere near as easy to use or as convenient.
FWIW .....I don't think there is that much difference in the sounds either especially once you have a bit of dirt in the tone or play with a band.
