Excellent work. Puts my gardening efforts (a complete lack of) to shame.

It’s tricky layout and you’ve made it work.

I realised as I posted on another decking related thread I never posted any pictures of the finished project, so here it is:

Total cost including the water feature and plants was about £4000

Wow that's an awesome job - looking back would you have done anything different?

Yes, there's a couple of extra things I'd have added that I'm planning for August, one of which is to extend the bamboo screening area, though I'll need to plant them in tubs as I'll be using Pseudosasa Japonicum rather than Fargesia Robusta (Pseudosasa is an invasive/running bamboo whereas Fargesia is a clump forming one).

I'm also going to be adding about another half tonne of slate chips and probably put bark chips on some of the remaining bare ground to keep weeds down.

There's part of the fence I'm going to extend too.

In terms of the construction I probably wouldn't change much, it seems to be wearing well. I apply end grain preservative about once a year and oil it once a year. I've been extremely impressed with the Liberon deck oil, it's reasonably expensive but easily worth it, leaves a very good finish and can be layered up without stripping back the old oil.

Kudos! You’ve certainly made the best of an unusual layout. And putting in the graft yourself is very impressive.
