Cut the old one off and solder a replacement on.

Bending the tab for better contact suggests you're talking about a jack socket rather than a jack plug?

If it's a plug, replace with Neutrik.

Ah yes, sorry guys, its the socket, not the plug, my bad. It seems to be making firm contact with the plug on the lead but it crackles when its wiggled around.

  • Replace the socket with a Switchcraft one (just a few £ from Axesrus, Allparts and dozens of other suppliers).  They are pretty much industry standard and almost certainly will outlast the guitar.

By the way - if you haven't already done so, check with another lead also.  The copper strands in the cable tend to go near the plug where it bends and moves about and they tend to start crackling before they finally give up altogether.
