So I saw these at the Crewe show today and tried them out...pleasantly surprised.

Its fair too say they dont seem to have the volume of a traditional acoustic, but they feel good, play well, intonation and tuning was spot on ( they have a standard truss rod)

I found the larger body to have the better volume obviously, but to play generally I found the arch back ( Ovation style) to be really good.

These are clearly not cheap, and talking to the guy typically take a couple of months to build each one, you can have a selection of pick up types as well.

All in all, a good guitar...will it take off...who knows, at circa £1k its a little risky to buy at the moment, if they could get it down to around £700 Id be in.

  • That company had an unfortunate start on theFB with an ill-judged bit of astroturfing! :)

Did you play the dreadnought? Wondering whether they have the same depth of tone (or timbre) as ye olde woode.
I'm just a Maserati in a world of Kias.

They look really interesting.  I’ll be honest, I was surprised at the price.  I would have thought they’d be at least twice that.

Different materials have to be the future.  The ‘Richlite’ fingerboard on my Les Paul is as good as anything else and looks mint.

Spruce and rosewood on acoustics is all well and good, but I was reading a review of the new ‘Reimagined’ Martin OM in the mag and it was four grand.

    Four grand.

It was definitely a lighter tone than Ye olde wood guitar, and Id question its ability as a recording guitar mic'd up.

  • They're bloody good guitars I have tried them all at the Bristol show, and the brothers are lovely guys, if I had the cash I would buy one as the playability is right up there, they got a rough reception here .. Like most other new companies who come here, they're not forum peopke so wouldnt know the proper etiquette of how to "gentally" make us aware of their produce and like usual that was all that was needed for the tfb "we know better than you" crowd to jump on them,, so they ain't been back since, can't blame them Frankley

  • Interesting looking guitars. I’d really like to play one, I seem to remember that some of the upmarket Ovation guitars had carbon fibre tops.

Rainsong have been making carbon fibre guitars for a long time (15 years or more?).  Don't know if they have UK distribution at the moment, but they were a lot more expensive than these.  I seem to remember them being around £2k 15 or so years ago.

Im not sure what the pros / cons are really, I guess they may be stronger ?....less liable to warping etc, ..they sound different ...but better or worse its hard to say from a 10 min trial.

    I’ve a concert hybrid series rainsong http://www.rainsong.com/concert-hybrid/series.html

the largest bodied one, it’s excellent and about £1200 from Thomann. To put it in context my other acoustic is a Martin hd28v.

The concert hybrid range are cheaper, they're some sort of glass fibre hybrid back and side, carbon top. The full carbon fibre ones are £2.5k.

The OM sounds like this, my WS isn't as bright and clangy.
