Bob Dylan - More Blood, More Tracks

What's Hot
So the official bootleg series finally reaches the New York sessions for Blood on the Tracks!

I've had a bootleg CD for ages of those sessions, and the official released tracks that have been on Biograph and some of the earlier Bootleg Series releases....but the idea of a 6 disc box with (supposedly) every take is pretty damn tempting.

Sadly I think I'll probably just end up with the single disc release, which I expect will just be a better sounding version of what I already have.

Mine too, though it's a toss up with Freewheelin' and Blonde on Blonde. That said, I've listened to few of these outtake albums and my take is that Bob chose the right versions for the official releases.

Leaving ‘Blind Willie McTell’ and ‘Series of Dreams’ off their respective albums shows he’s not always made the right choices. Both from later albums of course

Regarding Blood on the Tracks the New York versions of ‘Idiot Wind’ are superior to the final version in my opinion, much more emotional and the cutting in both lyrics and delivery.

Yes, definitely looking forward to this one. The single disc only has a couple of tracks that have already been booted, so there's still going to be some new stuff there.

Looking at the full listing, the things I'm looking forward to the most are the tracks with the band before he kicked out everyone but the bass.  Looks like he tried Simple Twist of Fate and You're Going to Make Me Lonesome.

It's a shame they couldn't find the tapes from Minnesota though.

The version on the album fits the flow of the whole record better imo, and it's full of righteous anger. But these are personal preferences, we can both agree it's an incredible piece of music.

Engineer Glenn Berger's recollections of the sessions are revealing (and pretty frightening).

I really like the Tangled Up In Blue version (in open D) that appears on the Bootleg CD and was it on Blood On The Tapes also? Anyway, great songs whichever way he plays them.

??? I know nothing about Bob D except abut 3 songs I may have heard on the radio occasionally. I'm beginning to think that I should look into him judging by comments here.

Years ago we did a buyers guide thread....and you'll find my Dylan posts towards the bottom of page one....it's quite a back catalogue to get through, and there's a fair bit of dross in there, but also many of the greatest songs ever written. http://www.thefretboard.co.uk/discussion/16851/a-beginners-guide-to/p1

Dylan seemed to revel in keeping everyone off balance in the studio. Maybe his recipe for capturing the ‘lightning in a bottle’ he spoke of around Blonde on Blonde.

If I opt for the 6 cd set I'd assume it would have to be cd, but definitely vinyl for the non deluxe edition.
