Hofner President - archtop guitar - selling on behalf of a friend

Price: £525 (collected from Nottingham)

Here is a beautiful piece of guitar history, which, according to the serial no. (7401) dates back to 1960! At nearly 60 years old, this is a true classic from the legendary Hofner!

This is a remarkable guitar, beautifully built and a real work of craftsmanship. I'm not an expert on these guitars, but I believe it to be all original, and it comes in exceptionally good condition. Of course, at 58 years old, it has some signs of use, but it's all hard earned natural wear (and nicotine ageing - don't worry the current owner doesn't smoke and it doesn't smell) with no significant damage - a little bit of damage to a section of binding on the headstock and a scrape to the tip of the headstock. There's some bucklerash to the back of the body, but not through the lacquer, and light fret wear only.

The guitar features a lovely warm looking spruce top with stunning maple back and side.

The guitar is set up with flatwound strings and plays very nicely. It has a lovely range of tones, with some interesting voicing options from the control layout.

Having checked other similar aged Presidents currently for sale, they seem to range from around £750 upwards, so given the originality and condition, this is being offered at a very competitive price.

Get in touch to come and have a look - cash on collection preferred for a guitar of this vintage, although happy to discuss postage if required.

Plenty more pictures available on request, but here are a few...
