Bleedin’ Fingers

What's Hot
Duppy03Duppy03 Frets: 104
I recently got a Gibson Midtown and I love it. Only problem is that after practice each week I end up with a bleeding finger.

Not sure if it’s from a string getting caught under my nail when I bend or from bending extra hard, but the skin under my nail gets cut and it don’t half sting a bit. Meaning I can’t play for the next 3 days at least without wincing.

Does anybody else get this? What could be causing it? I don’t have this problem with American Tele or MIM Strat.

Is it your first real six string, bought at the five and dime?

Yeah, but that was back in the summer of '69!

I’ve gotta be honest, I haven’t changed the strings since I got it and they could possibly be 11’s. I’ll change them out for a set on my regular 10’s and see if that helps

In that case those strings could be tarnished and rough and all round past it anyway!

How on earth did you get so many blood drops between the pickups? Your fretting hand is some distance from the pickups or have you found a new way to play the guitar?

Never had blood on my fretting hand, but I have a tendency to strum with half nail and half pick.

    Sometimes (rarely) it gets messy

  • I played a few low-key Saturday afternoon pub gigs when I was a student, and I lent my Vantage LP copy to a friend of the bass player to play a couple of funk numbers, just for a bit of fun. He was a good player, but dropped the pick early on and carried on with his fingers. Being students, we’d all had a few beers so he was oblivious to the fact that his fingertips were being shredded. I got my guitar back looking like @terada’s Strat.
