Wiring a battery box

Inspired by the post in the FX section, I thought I'd have a go at making a battery box power supply for a small pedalboard.

For less than £5 I now have these:

Can someone confirm which way round I need to wire up the barrel jack please? It will be powering Boss style centre-negative pedals so does that mean the black wire goes to the short terminal in the centre and the red wire goes to the long terminal?
