It's a stunt. Many people believe the original is still intact. The shredded picture will be restored and will be worth more  as per the comment by @TheMarlin ;

It should now be much easier to identify Banksy, if anyone wants to.

He would probably have had to be in the room to trigger the shredder by remote control, otherwise he would presumably not have been able to get the timing right.

Banksy was identified years ago ... he or someone else would have to have been there to press the button. Why didn't Southeby's spot the shredder? There's something fishy about this. Were they and the bidder in on this with Banksy?

I'm very surprised that the built in "shredder" went unnoticed. I dont think it worked properly either cause half the picture was left intact, I guess the plan was for the whole picture to be shredded and fall out the bottom of the frame.

I felt it was thought-provoking, at the very least. Why would the picture be worth less when in strips? It's still the same picture. You're not buying texture here, just an image.

not so sure about this, if you watch the video of the " shredder" being built in the frame the blades look the wrong way round to cut the picture that way.

Robert Del Naja, the 52-year-old member of trip hop trio Massive Attack. DJ Goldie apparently let his name slip in an interview about Banksy. Robert is an artist with a similar style to Banksy. There's also a picture of Robert at a site where a work by Banksy appeared shortly afterwards.

That was the name I'd heard....rather nicely for the mystery the name that Golide let slip was "Rob", so that fits with both this chap and 3D (Robert Del Naja)...and they're all connected anyway....maybe they're all Banksy.

That was a Daily Mail investigation. I think the only problem was Robin was not in the UK when some of the artworks appeared. He has strongly denied being Banksy.

DJ Goldie claims to know the artist and has given some interviews. He let slip a name which coincided with someone noticing that the artworks of Banksy are similar to those of Robert Del Naja ..
