One or both of the machineheads. That type are notorious for the back cover falling off, and the keyshaft with it, if the key gets knocked.

That’s certainly the most creative solution I’ve seen...

I like it, I think I could bond with that.
If we are not ashamed to think it, we should not be ashamed to say it.

Looking at the screws he/she had a right job getting them home, Who needs pilot holes when you have the wrong size screw driver and a truck load of determination.

A bit extreme for loose machine head covers, must have knocked more than a few quid off the second hand price.

I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

It certainly is, but people get desperate sometimes and can't think of better ways of doing things. It's actually surprising he didn't split the headstock... or maybe he did, you can't see the top of it!

I've also seen one repaired by tying a couple of pieces of a G string round it and twisting them in the manner of an old cable wrap, but that would need tools to loosen the front nut as well or they couldn't have been got between the machinehead and the headstock. Even that indented the headstock slightly, although it was hardly noticeable. It may have been what the owner had to do to get through a gig though, if he didn't have a spare guitar.

  • I actually looked at that photo for a good few seconds thinking 'well I can't see anything wrong with that'! :D
