I agree on the neck plate, the neck was taken off at some point and the plate reinstalled by someone who does not care too much.

Check ebay to see if a Mayer neck was sold a while ago, both necks and plates are available there.

Everything looks right to me, I have one and that's how the decal is. The string tree is also in the correct (different to standard) position for a JM Strat.

Maybe see if it comes with the special John Mayer Incase gig bag. They only came with the John Mayer Strats.
