Went to a jam night for the first time in years

What's Hot
TimmyOTimmyO Frets: 7433
A small number of folk here might remember that I used to be in a (not very good) band, but I don't think anyone knows that a I stopped playing entirely when I went through a period of being treated for anxiety (it was really bad - I got through it after a couple of years of serious struggle with it but it left me with the 'yips' about playing guitar for some reason.

So this was a more than usually big deal for me.

I pitched up ampless (only have Helix/DXR now and didn't want to be "that guy") - so I had to plug into the Line In on a keyboard amp - it was barely audible and sounded like a muffled, err, keyboard amp - just terrible!

So I scurried off stage after a couple of random blues numbers but will take an amp next time.

(I'm the one with 335)

Red ones are better.

That's great news. I know something of how hard that must have been as I'm in a similar place. You have my admiration and, who knows, you may even inspire me to take a similar step back to the stage. Well done. Seriously.

Well done Tim. You look a lot more confident than the other people in the picture.

Nice one, Tim - guitar looks good as well! I went through some pretty severe bouts of it too, about 30 years ago and twenty years ago for various reasons. It's good to come out the other side of it, and also to be able to understand it too. Cheers

  • Fantastic to see anyone overcoming the difficulties that life throws at us all at one time or another.

Good work, Tim. Will only get easier from here on in. Did you ever go back to that bluegrass session?

Cheers. The bluegrass club too advanced for me tbh - my Mandolin playing remains woeful

Well done mate, I've seen people very close to me suffer similar issue and it takes a lot to get back up on thats stage.  You look very relaxed up there and the 335 looks great,

    Wicked, good on you man.

Also, it's funny seeing old boys playing surf coloured jags.

    Good work.

The idea of just turning up to a jam night like that fills me full of total horror; I'm utterly convinced I'd just make a total arse of myself and never be able to go out in public again. So you have my boundless admiration just for doing it, let alone doing it against a backdrop of anxiety.

Excellent work - IMHO they're far more stressful than band gigs.
Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

  • Nice one Timburst. Playing with other folks in whatever capacity is hugely helpful I find, it’s a great motivator and helps keep a good perspective. I’ve been jamming with a mate most weeks in his man cave and even though we stick to basic stuff it’s improved my repertoire and ear no end.
