Phil Beastall's response to Christmas John Lewis advert

What's Hot
WARNING: can be upsetting if you've recently lost a love one.

The true meaning of Christmas made for £50 .. John Lewis should have hired this guy.

I have lost my brother and my mother in the last couple of years and this ad really resonates with me..........it makes you realise that amongst the tinsel and glitter it can be a very sad time ......as you get older New Years Eve becomes more of a countdown marker than a celebration.

    Made me weep..
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

My wife bought a set of xmas cards so that I could give them to my son every year. She didn't have the time to write them unfortunately but she left two beautiful letters for me and my son. It's 2 years now this week.

Well that puts things into perspective and truly trumps everything that is materialistic about Christmas. Very moving.

Xmas and life in general isnt about what you have, its about the connection you make with others but more importantly with yourself. To know yourself is a great and rare thing, its only through challenges, be they voluntary or unwanted that you gain insight.

Grinch here. My mum died in April; I thought this was awful, mawkish crap. Last thing she'd have wanted was me crying into a bowl of bran flakes every Giftmas.

I was cutting onions while I was watching this...

With so many comparison web sites out there, how do I choose the best one?

My mum died a month after her 67th birthday back in 1991.
A couple of years before she passed I had a gut gut feeling that she wasn't long for this world as she suffered from heart problems. I bought a video camera back then in order to capture as much footage as I could of her before the inevitable happened. Back then in 1989 video camera were insanely expensive, a months wages and I really couldn't afford it.. but then I felt I couldn't afford not to.

Man, I'm so glad I did it. I recorded her last two years extensively, holidays, Christmases et al. All that video is priceless too me now, the tapes have been digitised and are stored on multiple hard drives.

I adored her and miss her more than words can say but it's so great to be able to revisit her memory all these years later.

  • Sheena did exactly this for us with the videos and cards. I've three birthday cards left after having opened the first last month.

If anything, the advert shits on materialism which is good.

Yeah - I had to distract myself with wondering if his kitchen table came from Oak Furniture Land... Heartstrings truly pulled.
