Just saw this on Facebook and yes, I suppose it will lighten the guitar somewhat.

An easier way to lighten a PRS is to soak it in bleach.

You could hollow it out and re-glue the back on perhaps?

The search for why a PRS can't deliver that proper full fat single-cut tone, continues... 'Nope, nothing in there'.

Reminds me of those  pics of vintage strats that have had the horns cut off or big holes bored in them, and of course the odd Burst with a double cut added.
Still it's someones guitar and they love how it plays, I guess it's up to you what you do with it.

I assume he knew it wasn't already weight-relieved...! Either that or the back of the guitar Is *very* thin in a few places now.

It looks like an SE from the coloured pickup wires, and I'm pretty sure they're not.

That left handed Les Paul with a trem bodge job makes my heart sad.

Either 'Balls of Steel' or an idiot. Either way, it is a fine line between the two!

  • maybe by slicing the back off they were aiming to make another guitar out of it. how many thin slices could they get and then make more guitars

I’d understand it if a PRS is a heavy guitar, but they aren’t

My SE isn't too light, but it is a full thickness mahogany body and is similar to my R7 weight wise.

They can be, I had a McCarty Soapbar Standard that weighed over 10lb. Singlecuts can be even more, which is why they started weight-relieving them.

That has just given me an idea for the perfect guitar!

Hollow it out, put a hinge on and keep your sandwiches inside for a mid gig snack! A sure fire winner!

I've been lucky (from my point of view) and had nearly all lightweight PRS guitars.  In fact most of them, including a Singlecut Satin Standard and a couple of McCartys, have been pretty much bang on 7lbs, give or take an ounce or two.  The only exceptions were a Singlecut Trem - just over 8lbs - and my McCarty Korina, which is just under 8lbs.

My Custom 22 is over 8 1/2 pounds. However I like it. It’s got a real girth to the tone. But it’s still got a lovely fat midrange.

I had @bluemonst old McCarty goldtop that sounded amazing, but was about 11lbs.

That sort of twattery is where we end up when people start assessing guitars based on heir weight, rather than how they play and sound
    Red ones are better.

A chambered Les Paul sounds like a Les Paul, but a PRS Singlecut doesn't.

I don't know why and unfortunately I had to do the whole trial and error thing.

Doesn't what? Sound like a Les Paul? Does it have to?
