    Ah crap.
This death feels too close to home.
I grew up with a punk soundtrack but I always preferred the more melodic stuff to the shout-and-hit-your-guitar-as-hard-as-you-can school of punk, so Buzzcocks and The Ramones were firm favourites, then as now.

I was chatting about "Ever Fallen..." with one of the band the other day and and we were saying how even though we play it almost every week it's still a song we love playing.

I guess that for me "Ever Fallen..." is Pete Shelley.
And if I only wrote one song that good then I could die happy.
    Just not yet...

EDIT:  WTF how in god's name could forget this:
Pete Shelley, "Homosapien" -- the 12" extended version -- and the first time I heard that studio production at 1:55 it blew my mind.  I love all the dubby stuff in this mix.

    RIP Pete Shelley

Buzzcocks were incredibly influential in 1976/77 music scene around Manchester.
The Spiral Scratch EP was a classic of it's time.
I'm still trying to work out that guitar solo on Boredom.
