Tuners for Epiphone 335 pro

I've just bought a 335 pro, had a proper set up on it including the nut being cut and filed. It plays great and the pickups are just the job but the tuners are terrible. The B tuner on particular seems to have some slack in it before it takes up the string.

Has anyone changed theirs? I was thinking of Klusons or Gotoh but wanted to make sure which ones to get for a straight swap.

Unscrew one of the stock machineheads. Slide it out of the headstock. Inspect and measure the drilled hole through which the machine head shaft passes.

Do not be surprised if the small diameter of the drilled hole restricts your options to replica Kluson keystones with the push-in ferrule.

Any replacement 'head with a washer and a threaded hexagonal nut fastening on the front of the headstock will be too big for the existing drilled hole.

Gotoh SD90 in the tasteful Nickel finish is your best bet.
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

  • I was looking at the Goton SD90s, and they looked very similar. I prefer the Nickel finish to the bigger tulip headed tuners.
