So I didn't get on with the Jackson that I've recently sold, but I wanted a hardtail... and I didn't really get on with the Modern Player Tele that I had earlier in the year... but I wanted a Tele... this has arrived today, from GAK*. First impressions: beautiful finish - it's much nicer looking than the Jackson; they call them both Chlorine Burst, but this one actually looks blue-green and quilted, where the Jackson was more of a swirly blue. The pickups are great (can't really go wrong with a JB & a '59), but the main thing: the neck is absolutely fantastic, it just makes me want to play and play.

It needs new strings fairly urgently; my fingers were black from playing these, but setup wise it's pretty much there straight out of the box.

* (yes, I know it's not *actually* a Tele)

  • Ooh, that’s pretty. And it is a Tele, apart from the pickups, the maple cap and the headstock and the controls are in the wrong position, etc etc.
Only kidding, there are many flavours of Tele of which that is a very nice one.

Ah, when is a Tele not a Tele? For me if it has the correct original body shape it is a Tele, regardless of pickups/hardware/controls and even construction. Others have more purist views.

Whatever, that's a handsome guitar @skullfunkerry. Congrats and HNGD :)

That’s really really handsome! Reckon it’d look spiffing with a zebra in the neck.

Where are these Charvel’s made now? Is it at Fender’s Mexican facility?

That is a beautiful looking guitar.
I believe they are made in the Fender Mexican factory.
I have SD "JB" & "59" Zebra"s in my Charvel Pro Mod San Dimas

I can imagine - sharkfins on that wall would look dreadful.

I rather like that - let's say it's a Supertele and then no-one needs to worry whether it's a Tele or not. :)

    Nice guitar congratulations!
I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

Same neck as my Pro Mod, 12"-16" compound, really comfy, for me anyway.

The neck is amazing... I can't put it down, it's super comfy - and amazing how different it feels to the Jackson neck, which on paper is the same. And yes, it's Mexican made. And yes, a pair of zebras would look great - but I'm super happy with how it sounds at the moment so it might have to be a set of the bobbin topper stickers I recommended to tenebrous a while back

I"m also loving the jumbo frets, first guitar that I have had with them.

  • Wow - I’ve always liked these, especially in the natural finish.

0% is such an evil Temptress, especially when we can all justify “one more guitar” :)
